Conditions:

Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, or isiXhosa) with the ability to speak, read, and write.

Work Schedule: Must be willing to work shifts, overtime, and be deployed to any fire station, fire service installation, or section as determined by the Chief Fire Officer.

Background Check: Must have no criminal record (a police clearance certificate, not older than three months, must accompany your application).

Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and capable of operating under extreme conditions. Applicants will need to pass a Departmental Physical Test upon entry and annually thereafter.

Medical Clearance: Must pass a medical test upon placement, including periodic screenings for banned substances.

Job Purpose:

As a Fire Fighter Learner, you will perform various tasks related to firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention, and training activities. You will also operate and maintain firefighting equipment and facilities. Your role will be essential in protecting lives and property within the city in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987).

Key Performance Areas:

Firefighting and Emergency Operations: Once training and qualifications are completed, you will participate in firefighting activities and emergency operations under the supervision of senior officers to minimize risks to life and property.

Emergency Preparation and Safety: Assist in preparing for emergency incidents and protective duties, educating the public, and maintaining high safety standards.

Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that firefighting equipment and vehicles are safe, available, and in working order.

Administrative Functions: Perform basic administrative tasks to ensure proper record-keeping under the guidance of supervisors.

Performance Management: Participate in the city’s Performance Management and Development System.

General Information:
